Automation & Reliability
Ab Initio Attribute Onboarding Automation
Automates onboarding new business attributes into multiple Ab Initio DMLs, an XFR and a JSON config, with developer approval and auto-tagging.
Context
Onboarding a new business attribute meant editing multiple Ab Initio DMLs, an XFR and a JSON config.
Problem
The task recurred often, was done by hand and had to respect scoping rules and field-name constraints, which made it slow and easy to get wrong.
My role
I built the automation.
Approach & architecture
- Handles scoping rules (mobility, non-mobility or both; delinkable or not) and field-name constraints.
- Flow: lock objects → apply edits → show a change summary for developer approval → check in → auto-create a migration tag using team conventions.
Tech stack
- Ab Initio
- EME/air commands
- Shell
- Python
What I'd do next
- Add a dry-run mode that produces the change summary for code review before any objects are locked.
